Thanks to modern science, a nose job has become one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures among Asians. Technological advances have made “new” noses look natural on Asian faces. A recent advance material Gore-Tex which is easy to mold, flexible, soft, and non-biodegradable characteristics is the best implant material so far. It is micro-porous and proven to be tissue friendly. A typical surgery using Gore-Tex takes about 90 minutes. Preliminary work may include trimming and repositioning of the cartilage, breaking the nasal bone, and grafting. After the surgery, it usually takes a week for the swelling around the nose area to subside. The healing process of Gore-Tex does not involve capsular formation; there is tissue in-growth. The material adheres to the nasal bone and therefore gives a natural look. It is resistant to trauma. There is no long-term deviation or migration. It can absorb minimal impact without the fear of extrusion. With these properties a patient who had Gore-Tex rhinoplasty can engage into sports. By the third week, the patient can already start showing off the new and improved look.
