Just because you could afford it doesn’t mean you should go for it. A lot of celebrities have gone under the knife to fix something that wasn’t wrong in the first place. They wanted to perfect themselves but instead they end up looking ten times worse. When Tara Reid opted to have liposuction, she ended up having the stomach of a wrinkly old lady, she would have been better off doing it the normal way through dieting and working out. Hillary Duff had her normal lips pimped and now she looks like a horse. Lesson? There are no instant gratification and, love your body coz its not something you can play with like clay with a surgeon.

We know that surgery is a very expensive not to mention lucrative procedure, which is why it is imperative that the public makes sure that the doctors who does them are still bounded by ethical behaviors. In the case of plastic surgeons, they should put it among themselves to make sure that they only accept patients who either have major deformities or have justified the need for a plastic surgery. They neglect the fact that there are other options to looking better, how many doctors actually refer their patients to a therapist or the gym to boost self esteem the none-surgical way?

Plastic surgery is often associated with vanity but for some people, it really is a serious case of reconstruction. The most famous type of plastic or cosmetic surgery is done to remedy cleft chins. Operation smile aims to uplift children’s self esteem by giving them a chance to relieve themselves of their deformity through operation. Dermabrassion and laser procedures are also done to help minimize the appearances of birthmarks and scars derived from accidents. Operation smile believes that even though character trumps physical attributes anytime, it doesn’t hurt to be free from major deformities. In a visual world wherein we cannot be helped but be judged with our looks, it pays to look good, or at the very least, normal.

There is a petition to band teens from resorting to plastic surgery. This is after 306,000 of them has willingly gone under the knife to alter a body part two usually breast enlargements and nose jobs and butt enhancements. The call to ban plastic procedures was made to establish to put a stop to the growing concern over the young public’s obsession over media depicted standard of perfection. Another issue is the fact that surgery at such a young age could pose as a threat to one’s natural growth. It is a fact that the body, seeing that it is still considered to be in its developing stage during teenage years is still bound to take on a new form as they reach their 20s, the procedure might do more harm than good in the end.

The procedure involving sex change remains to be one of the most controversial not to mention most debated issue up to date not only by moralists against liberals but also medical practitioners. Before a patient could undergo a sex change, the law requires him or her to submit him or herself under therapy. This is where the shrink evaluates if the person’s condition is indeed fit enough to undergo such a drastic change. This is done to prevent any regret on the part of the patient, after all the last thing he or she needs is to realize he or she wants to recover her or his former sexuality back, which when operated on is next to impossible to get back.

Most teens view plastic surgery as an easy path to fitting in, contrary to adults who see it as a way to stand out. In this case it is important that both asses the real reason they are undergoing the procedure. Most doctors won’t agree to perform surgery without being convinced that the patient is decided with the procedure and is mature enough to grasp the consequences of going under the knife. It is recommended that the patient sees a therapist first to determine if he or she is psychologically fit enough to go on a permanent body reconstruction and if he or she is actually doing the operation for the right reasons.

Cosmetic surgery should be the last option for anyone who wants a physical make over and with good reasons. If you think going under the knife is tough, wait until you experience the aftermath. The after effect of cosmetic surgery is no different from a major surgery, patients are made invalid and suffer from wide range of side effects for a period of time, and as if that is not enough, the maintenance is even harder not to mention more expensive than the actual procedure itself. So if you’re thinking that liposuction is the easy way to losing weight, remember that the procedure was made to be maintained with diet and exercise after wards, so if you’re too lazy to do both now, forget about surgery.

Just as you thought the little veins inside your legs that cause a great deal of pain cannot be treated, then you’re wrong.
Before, doctors only used lasers to treat the large visible veins on your legs called varicose veins. They never used it on smaller sized veins because they fear that the laser was too strong for the little veins to handle (the veins might burn, and rupture in the process). A new study shows that with the use of local anesthesia, targeting these small veins is now possible. The job of anesthesia is to wrap the vein, and make it less vulnerable to the powerful laser.

Sadly, for breast cancer victims, having to undergo mastectomy entails a lot of anxiety for the patient. Some think that losing one breast will make them less of a woman, or probably they fear that their husbands won’t be that supportive anymore and will find another one.

New studies show that mastectomy operation can be immediately followed up by breast reconstruction. Years ago, doctors didn’t practice this (and this was a pretty controversial topic in the medical world) because they fear that having another operation afterwards may lead to certain types of complications. However, they have found out that having these two simultaneous procedures done is perfectly safe.

There is an army of able plastic surgeons out there but you to be wise in choosing the right plastic surgeon for you. Here are some tips to help you in choosing a surgeon:
Make sure that your surgeon is a certified plastic surgeon and is a member of a Board of Physicians and Surgeons.
Find out where your doctor performs his/her operations. Certified surgeons operate only in accredited medical facilities.

Follow your gut feel. You should trust your surgeon because are giving him the right to operate on your body. If you do not trust your surgeon, it is reason enough to look for another one.
